Grundfos Comfort 15-14 Basic – domestic hot water recirculation pump

The Grundfos Comfort 15-14 Basic is a compact recirculation pump for domestic hot water. It maintains constant circulation in the recirculation line so that hot water reaches taps, showers and sanitary appliances more quickly, without the need for continuous draining of cooled water from the pipes.

Fast hot water Reduces the waiting time for hot water at consumption points.
Low consumption Permanent magnet motor with power consumption of only 7 W.
Two options Choose between a standard model and a version with built-in valves.

Main advantages of Comfort 15-14 Basic

  • Ensures faster access of hot water to taps, showers and sanitary appliances.
  • Reduces water waste while waiting for the desired temperature.
  • Suitable for recirculation systems for domestic hot water in single- and two-family houses.
  • It operates continuously at full speed without timer or AUTOADAPT control.
  • Permanent magnet, single-phase, 12-pole motor.
  • Very low power consumption – 7 W.
  • Quiet operation thanks to low friction and self-adjusting bearing.
  • Double electrical insulation – Protection Class II.
  • Self-aligning bearing lubricated by the pumped liquid.
  • Stainless spherical separator that separates the water part from the electrical part of the motor.
  • Does not require additional engine protection.
  • The motor can be separated from the pump housing for easier maintenance or replacement.
  • Suitable for open and closed systems.

How does recirculation work?

In a system without recirculation, the water in the pipes cools down when there is no demand. When opening a tap, the cooled water must first be drained until the hot water reaches the appropriate point. Comfort 15-14 Basic maintains the circulation of the hot water along the recirculation line so that it is closer to the sanitary appliances and arrives faster.

Operating mode

The Basic variant operates in Continuous 100% mode – the pump circulates continuously at full speed. This variant is suitable when constant hot water availability is required and the system has a relatively constant usage pattern.

If you want the pump to run only at certain times, choose Comfort 15-14 T DG Timer. If you want it to automatically adapt to your hot water consumption habits, choose Comfort 15-14 AUTOADAPT.

Applications

  • Domestic hot water systems in single-family homes.
  • Domestic hot water systems in two-family houses.
  • Recirculation lines to bathrooms, kitchens, showers and sanitary facilities.
  • Small heating systems.
  • Small cooling and air conditioning systems.
  • Open and closed circulatory systems.

Suitable liquids

  • Clean, thin, non-aggressive and non-explosive water.
  • Domestic hot water.
  • Softened water.
  • Mineral oil-free coolants.
For liquids with a higher viscosity than water, the hydraulic performance of the pump is reduced. For example, 50% glycol at 20 °C can reduce performance by approximately 15%.

Installation guidelines

  • The pump is designed for indoor installation in a non-aggressive and non-explosive environment.
  • The maximum relative humidity is 95%.
  • The ambient temperature must be lower than the temperature of the pumped liquid to limit condensation in the stator housing.
  • The recommended operating water temperature is around 50 °C to limit limescale deposits.
  • To prevent cavitation noise and bearing damage, a minimum inlet pressure of 0.5 bar (5 m water column) is required at the pump inlet.
  • Ensure proper flow direction and access to the pump for future servicing.

Construction and materials

The Grundfos Comfort 15-14 Basic has a compact design and a permanent magnet motor. The parts in contact with the water are hermetically separated from the electrically active part of the motor by a stainless steel spherical separator.

Component Material Purpose
Stator fins Steel They form the magnetic field of the motor.
Stator windings Enameled copper wire They provide electromagnetic drive of the rotor.
Stator housing Aluminum / PA66 Protects the engine's electrical components.
Spherical separator Stainless steel EN 1.4016 / AISI 430 Hermetically separates the water part from the electrical part of the motor.
Rotor module Stainless steel/tungsten carbide The rotor is driven by the magnetic field of the stator.
Rotor and impeller Stainless steel, EPDM, PPO, PTFE, graphite They ensure the circulation of hot water.
Pump housing Brass CW617N Suitable for domestic hot water systems when properly selected.
Terminal box cover PC/ABS Protection of electrical connections.
Engine cover PPO Protects the engine part.
Insulating shells EPP They limit heat loss from the pump housing.

Design advantages

  • Permanent magnet motor: Provides high efficiency and low power consumption.
  • One bearing point: Reduces friction, noise and electrical power required.
  • Self-aligning bearing: Lubricated by the pumped liquid and does not require separate maintenance.
  • Stainless steel spherical separator: Separates electrical parts from water without additional shaft seal.
  • Brass pump housing: Design designed for domestic hot water applications.
  • Detachable design: The motor can be separated from the pump housing for easier maintenance or replacement.
In the B PM model, the shut-off and non-return valves are not integrated into the housing. In the BX PM model, they are built-in, which facilitates installation and future maintenance of the pump.

Approvals and safety

Grundfos Comfort is intended for international use and the document includes approvals for European and other markets, as well as approvals for components in drinking water systems. [14]

Marking / standard Meaning
CE Compliance with applicable European safety, health and environmental protection requirements.
VDE Electrical safety approval/marking specified for the series.
NSF/ANSI 61 Approval for components used in drinking water systems.
NSF/ANSI 372 Compliance with requirements for low lead content in drinking water components.
Protection Class II Double electrical insulation; protective conductor PE is not required for the pump.
IP44 Degree of protection of the electrical part of the pump.
Insulation class F Thermal class of the motor insulation.

Safe operation

  • The pump has double electrical insulation Class II.
  • The motor is impedance protected and short-circuit resistant.
  • No additional motor protection is required.
  • The electrical connection must comply with local regulations.
  • The pump must only be installed indoors.
  • Check the compatibility of the specific product number with the requirements of the local market and drinking water system.
In domestic hot water systems, it is important to comply with applicable local hygiene requirements and requirements to limit the risk of legionella.

Comparison of Comfort 15-14 Basic models

Both models are basic domestic hot water recirculation pumps and operate continuously at full speed. The main difference is in the connection, installation length and the presence of integrated shut-off and non-return valves.

Which model to choose?

  • Comfort 15-14 B PM: Choose for a standard recirculation system with an installation length of 80 mm and Rp 1/2" connection. Suitable when the shut-off and non-return valves are already present in the installation or will be added separately.
  • Comfort 15-14 BX PM: Choose when a 140 mm installation length and G 1" connection are required. The built-in shut-off and non-return valves facilitate installation and allow servicing of the pump without draining the entire recirculation system.
The choice between B PM and BX PM is not based on flow or head, as the hydraulic characteristics are the same. The choice is made based on the available connection, the required installation length and whether you want a built-in shut-off and check valve.

The data is in accordance with the provided technical catalogue for Grundfos COMFORT. Check the specific product number, connection type, installation length, presence of shut-off and non-return valve and compatibility with the specific system before ordering and installation.
