Grundfos Comfort 15-14 AUTOADAPT – intelligent hot water recirculation pump
The Grundfos Comfort 15-14 AUTOADAPT is an intelligent recirculation pump for domestic hot water. It learns how the household uses hot water and automatically controls the circulation so that hot water is available when it is needed, without the pump running continuously 24/7.
Main advantages of Comfort 15-14 AUTOADAPT
- AUTOADAPT function that adapts to the actual hot water usage pattern.
- Maintains faster availability of hot water at taps, showers and sanitary appliances.
- Limits unnecessary circulation outside of periods of likely consumption.
- Reduces the pump's electrical consumption and heat losses in the recirculation line.
- Records consumption events in a two-week log.
- Distinguishes consumption patterns during weekdays and weekends.
- Built-in temperature control mode.
- Possibility of continuous operation Continuous 100% if necessary.
- Permanent magnet, single-phase, 12-pole motor.
- Very low power consumption – 7 W.
- Self-aligning bearing lubricated by the pumped liquid.
- Stainless spherical separator between the water and electrical parts of the motor.
- Double electrical insulation Protection Class II.
How does AUTOADAPT work?
AUTOADAPT uses an external temperature sensor mounted on the flow pipe and a built-in temperature sensor in the pump. The system recognizes when hot water is used, records it in a log and gradually builds a consumption model.
After accumulating enough information, the pump predicts when hot water is likely to be used and turns on circulation in advance. This way, hot water is available during normal consumption hours, and the pump limits unnecessary operation during other times.
Training period
The pump needs approximately two weeks to adapt to the hot water usage pattern. During this period it operates in temperature mode, even when AUTOADAPT is selected. After data accumulation, the pump starts using the consumption register for automatic control.
Operating modes
| Mode | How it works | When is it appropriate? |
|---|---|---|
| AUTOADAPT | The pump records and predicts hot water consumption, then manages switching on and off according to likely need. | In households with a repetitive daily or weekly usage pattern. |
| Temperature control | The pump monitors the temperature and operates within an automatically calculated temperature range between Tstart and Tstop. | During the initial training period, after a power outage, or when a temperature mode is selected. |
| Continuous 100% | The pump runs continuously at full speed, without automatic control. | When constant circulation of hot water is required. |
Hygiene features
The pump performs a weekly disinfection function lasting 15 minutes. If a higher temperature is measured at another time during the week, the disinfection cycle is moved to that time. If the pump has been off for eight hours, it turns on the circulation for 15 minutes to flush the recirculation pipe.
Applications
- Domestic hot water systems in single-family homes.
- Domestic hot water systems in two-family houses.
- Recirculation lines to bathrooms, kitchens, showers and sanitary facilities.
- Systems where hot water consumption has a recurring daily or weekly pattern.
- Small heating systems.
- Small cooling and air conditioning systems.
- Open and closed circulatory systems.
Suitable liquids
- Clean, thin, non-aggressive and non-explosive water.
- Domestic hot water.
- Softened water.
- Mineral oil-free coolants.
Installation guidelines
- The pump is designed for indoor installation in a non-aggressive and non-explosive environment.
- The maximum relative humidity is 95%.
- The ambient temperature must be lower than the temperature of the pumped liquid to limit condensation in the stator.
- The recommended operating temperature is around 50 °C to limit limescale deposits.
- To prevent cavitation noise and bearing damage, a minimum inlet pressure of 0.5 bar (5 m water column) is required.
- The external temperature sensor is installed 20–50 cm from the boiler outlet.
- Ensure proper flow direction and access to the pump for future servicing.
Construction and materials
Comfort 15-14 AUTOADAPT combines a recirculation pump with a permanent magnet motor, integrated intelligent electronics and an external temperature sensor. The water part is hermetically separated from the electrical part of the motor by a stainless steel spherical separator.
| Component | Material | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Stator fins | Steel | They form the magnetic field of the motor. |
| Stator windings | Enameled copper wire | They provide electromagnetic drive of the rotor. |
| Stator housing | Aluminum / PA66 | Protects the engine's electrical components. |
| Spherical separator | Stainless steel EN 1.4016 / AISI 430 | Hermetically separates the water part from the electrical part of the motor. |
| Rotor module | Stainless steel/tungsten carbide | The rotor is driven directly by the magnetic field of the stator. |
| Rotor and impeller | Stainless steel, EPDM, PPO, PTFE, graphite | They ensure the circulation of hot water. |
| Pump housing | Brass CW617N | Suitable for domestic hot water systems when properly selected. |
| Terminal box cover | PC/ABS | Protection of electrical connections and control electronics. |
| Engine cover | PPO | Protects the engine part. |
| Cable rings | PC/ABS | Part of the design of the AUTOADAPT variant. |
| Temperature sensor | External flow sensor | Detects hot water consumption through temperature changes in the pipe. |
| Insulating shells | EPP | They limit heat loss from the pump housing. |
Design advantages
- Built-in AUTOADAPT control: Analyzes consumption and manages circulation according to predicted need.
- External temperature sensor: Detects actual hot water usage through temperature changes along the flow pipe.
- Permanent magnet motor: Provides low power consumption – only 7 W.
- One bearing point: Reduces friction, noise and electrical power required.
- Self-aligning bearing: Lubricated by the pumped liquid and does not require separate maintenance.
- Stainless steel spherical separator: Separates electrical parts from water without a classic shaft seal.
- Detachable design: The motor can be separated from the pump housing for easier replacement and maintenance.
