Installation and operation
PM PLUS can be installed in a system with or without a pressure vessel. It is installed directly on the pump outlet or on the pipeline between the pump and the first point of consumption. When the pressure drops to the selected starting value, the pressure control turns on the pump. When consumption stops and the flow rate drops below the required level, the device controls the pump shutdown.
Construction and components
The provided data sheet describes the functions and construction elements of the PM PLUS, but does not specify specific materials for the housing, diaphragm, valve and internal parts. Therefore, the table below only contains the confirmed components and their function.
| Component | Function |
|---|---|
| Housing with IP65 protection rating | Protects electronic and hydraulic components from dust and water jets. |
| Built-in pressure gauge 0–12 bar | Allows visual control of the pressure in the installation. |
| Built-in check valve | Limits backflow to the pump and supports stable system operation. |
| Inner membrane | Helps limit short cycles and smoother response to pressure changes. |
| Inner court | It works together with the diaphragm to stabilize the pressure in the controller. |
| Electronic control unit | It controls the start/stop of the pump, monitors for lack of water and performs automatic restart. |
| Anti-blocking function | Helps limit the risk of system blockage during prolonged downtime. |
| LED indications | They show power, pump operation and alarm status. |
| RESET button | Used to reset emergency indications after the cause has been eliminated. |
| G1 / NPT connections | They allow connection to a water supply system with a 1" connection. |
Practical advantages
- Adjustability: The starting pressure is selected according to the height of the system and the required pressure at the consumers.
- Pressure monitoring: The pressure gauge with a range of 0–12 bar allows for quick visual checks during setup and diagnostics.
- Fewer external components: The device integrates control, dry-running protection, check valve, diaphragm, small internal vessel and pressure gauge.
- Flexible installation: Suitable for direct installation to a pump or in the pipeline.

Approvals and certificates
Grundfos PM PLUS has markings and approvals for electrical safety and use in drinking water systems, as specified in the supplied product sheet. [7]
Safety approvals
- CE marking: Declares compliance with applicable European safety, health and environmental protection requirements.
- TÜV Rheinland Certified: Certification by TÜV Rheinland is indicated for the specific product/performance.
- cULus: North American safety compliance marking for Canada and the USA.
Drinking water approvals
- NSF/ANSI 61: Approval for components used in drinking water systems.
- NSF/ANSI 372: Compliance with requirements for low lead content in drinking water components.
- ACS: French sanitary approval for contact with drinking water.
Why are they important?
- Safety: Markings indicate that the product has been evaluated against applicable electrical safety and usage requirements.
- Potable Water: NSF/ANSI 61, NSF/ANSI 372 and ACS are important in installations where the pressure control has contact with domestic water supply.
- Compliance: For sites with regulatory requirements, it is important to check whether the specific product number is suitable for the market in which it is being installed.
Starting pressure selection
PM PLUS allows the adjustment of the starting pressure according to the installation height and the required water supply comfort. The selected pump must provide at least the minimum pressure specified for the respective setting. [7]

| Suitable for | Villas, houses and low-rise systems. | Medium-rise houses and buildings. | Taller buildings or systems with greater elevation. | Tall buildings and installations with the highest point of consumption up to about 35 m. |
How to choose the setting?
- 1.5 bar: Suitable for low systems and highest point of consumption up to about 15 m above the pressure control. The pump must provide a minimum of 3 bar.
- 2 bar: Suitable for systems up to approx. 25 m high and up to approx. 6 floors. The pump must provide a minimum of 3.5 bar.
- 2.5 bar: Suitable for systems up to approx. 30 m high and up to approx. 8 floors. The pump must provide a minimum of 4 bar.
- 3 bar: Suitable for higher systems with a highest point of up to about 35 m and up to approximately 10 floors. The pump must provide a minimum of 4.5 bar.
The data is based on the supplied Grundfos PM PLUS product sheet. Please check the specific product number, electrical version, selected starting pressure and pump compatibility before ordering and installation.
