Grundfos UNILIFT KP – stainless steel drainage pump with wet rotor

Grundfos UNILIFT KP is a submersible drainage pump in a compact design, made entirely of stainless steel. It is the original Grundfos drainage pump and the only wet runner on the market – with a liquid-filled rotor and water-lubricated bearings. Even if the shaft seal leaks, the pump continues to operate without short-circuiting. It is suitable for stationary and portable installations.

Stainless steel All parts in AISI 304 for long life.
Wet runner design The rotor is filled with liquid, water lubricated bearings.
Cooling jacket Allows continuous operation in partial immersion.

Main advantages of UNILIFT KP

  • Entirely made of stainless steel (AISI 304) for all hydraulic parts.
  • Wet runner design – the rotor is filled with liquid, water-lubricated bearings.
  • Even if the shaft seal leaks, the pump operates without short circuit.
  • Cooling jacket for continuous operation in partial immersion.
  • Semi-open impeller for minimal risk of clogging.
  • Hermetically sealed stator housing for maximum protection.
  • Built-in automatic overload protection.
  • Easy access for replacing consumables – float, bearing seal, impeller and rotor.

Applications

  • Pumping into drainage wells and pits inside and outside buildings.
  • Mobile emergency use for draining flooded areas such as basements.
  • Protection against backwater in the basement and drainage of gray water from sanitary appliances.
  • Emptying pools, lakes and reservoirs.
  • Various applications in agriculture, horticulture, dairy and brewing industries.
  • Pumping clean and slightly contaminated water without long fibers.

Suitable liquids

  • Clean, non-aggressive water.
  • Slightly polluted grey wastewater.
  • Drainage and rainwater with small impurities.
The pump is not suitable for liquids containing long fibers, flammable liquids such as oil or gasoline, or aggressive chemicals.

Installation

UNILIFT KP is suitable for permanent and portable installations. The pump can be installed vertically, inclined or horizontally, with the outlet at the highest point. It is available with a float for automatic start/stop, with a vertical float for small spaces or without a float for manual control via an external controller.

When installed in a well, the minimum dimensions are 400 × 350 mm for models with float. The pump should be placed as far as possible from the inlet connection to avoid loss of air pressure.

Start and stop levels

In models with a float (KP-A) the difference in level between start and stop is adjusted by changing the free length of the cable between the float and the pump handle. In models with a vertical float (KP-AV) the difference is not adjustable.

Model Start (min. cable) Stop (min. cable) Start (max. cable) Stop (max cable)
KP 150 A 290mm 140mm 335 mm 100mm
KP 250 A 290mm 140mm 335 mm 100mm
KP 350 A 300mm 150mm 345mm 110mm
KP 150 AV 180mm 100mm - -
KP 250 AV 180mm 100mm - -
KP 350 AV 190mm 110mm - -

Operating modes

  • Automatic mode with float (KP-A): Automatic start/stop between two liquid levels.
  • Automatic mode with vertical float (KP-AV): For small confined spaces, levels are not adjusted.
  • Manual mode (KP-M): Without float, controlled by external controller or manual on/off.
  • Single-phase pumps: With built-in automatic overload protection.
  • Three-phase pumps: Requires an external controller with motor protection.
UNILIFT KP is the only wet runner on the market – the rotor is filled with liquid and the bearings are water lubricated. This ensures extended service life even with worn bearing seals.

Component materials

UNILIFT KP is constructed entirely of stainless steel for all hydraulic parts, which ensures exceptional strength, corrosion resistance and long service life.

Advantages of materials

  • AISI 304 stainless steel: High corrosion resistance and strength for all main hydraulic components.
  • AISI 431 Stainless Steel: The shaft is made of a higher grade of stainless steel for added strength and wear resistance.
  • Semi-open impeller: Reduces the risk of clogging and provides a free passage of 10 mm.
  • Water-lubricated carbon bearings: Ensure long life and quiet operation, even with worn bearing seals.
  • Hermetically sealed stator housing: Eliminates possible points for water to enter the stator.
  • NBR seals: High-quality rubber seals, wear-resistant and suitable for contact with water.
All materials that come into contact with water are approved for use with clean and slightly contaminated water. For aggressive environments, consultation with Grundfos is recommended for a suitable version.

Approvals and certificates

Grundfos UNILIFT KP has the necessary safety and quality approvals and certificates that guarantee reliable operation in domestic, commercial and industrial applications.

Major approvals

  • CE marking: The pump meets the requirements of European directives for safety, health and environmental protection.
  • EN 60335-2-41: Safety standard for submersible sewage pumps.
  • ISO 9906: Standard for hydraulic performance of pumps.

Why are approvals important?

  • Health and Safety: Approvals ensure that the pump meets strict safety and reliability standards.
  • Regulatory compliance: The use of approved products is mandatory in many countries for installations related to wastewater disposal.
  • Trust and quality: Certified products have passed rigorous testing and meet high quality standards.
Before installation, check whether the specific product number has the necessary approvals for your country or region. If additional certifications are required, contact Grundfos or your distributor.

Which model to choose?

  • KP 150: Suitable for small installations with low head (up to 5.5 m) and moderate flow. Ideal for pumping drainage water from small wells or basements, pools and tanks.
  • KP 250: Universal model with a balance between head (up to 8 m) and flow rate. Suitable for larger domestic installations, drainage systems and pumping stations. The most commonly used model for standard applications.
  • KP 350: The most powerful model with a head of up to 10 m and a flow rate of up to 14 m³/h. Suitable for more demanding applications where higher head or higher flow is required, such as deeper wells or larger pumping stations.
All models have a free passage of 10 mm, a temperature range of 0–50 °C (with short periods up to 70 °C), pH 4–9 and a protection rating of IP68. The choice between them depends mainly on the required head, flow rate and power for the specific installation.

The technical specifications are in accordance with the Grundfos UNILIFT KP technical catalogue provided. Please check the specific product number, voltage, cable length, control type (A, AV or M) and number of phases before ordering.
